The slate has been wiped clean (of the good and bad). You have another opportunity to BE MORE and DO BETTER. This week can be your best week ever! Remember, success is just a string of successful weeks tied together.

Here’s a quote that is particularly insightful and motivating:

If you don’t have confidence,
you’ll always find a way not to win.

~ Carl Lewis

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Cultivate Confidence

The lack of confidence is a close cousin of fear. I believe it’s the most common core obstacle, and one of the most destructive stumbling blocks to achievement and lasting success that exists.

Very little in life happens without confidence. That’s largely why confidence levels have been found to be a reliable indicator for future behavior. It seems that in order for us to take action, we have to be either confident about the expected outcome or confident in our ability to deal with the outcome whatever it ends up being. And, here is something interesting. Confidence is not only critical to move us to take action, it is also critical for us to be able to persuade others to take action. One reason is because confidence is our subconscious’ code for trustworthiness, competence, safety or reduced risk and a host of other qualifying factors we’re not even aware we’re using.

So, how do you build the confidence you need to take all required actions and persuade others? I have found that it takes three core things to build confidence: increasing knowledge, preparation and increasing the experience of success of any kind and size on a daily basis. My three core confidence builders remind me of a related quote that I also find insightful and motivating: As is our confidence, so is our capacity. ~William Hazlitt

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION:Everyday, I consciously and deliberately cultivate my confidence by increasing my knowledge, diligently preparing myself, and acknowledging and reveling in all my successes (large and small).

Until next Monday, expect the best FROM and FOR yourself!

Profitably yours,

Once we realize that imperfect understanding is the human condition, there is no shame in being wrong, only in failing to correct our mistakes.

~George Soros

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Embrace the Unknown

Growth and expansion is part of our essence. You can not cease your desire to be more, do more and have more any more than you can stop the sun from rising and setting every day. I believe that in order to grow and expand, we must look forward to, make peace with, and fully experience the unknown. Yes, dealing with the unknown increases the possibility that you may be wrong about assumptions, estimates, predictions and decisions. Yes, when you are trying new things, the likelihood that your situation will take an undesirable turn is increased. That’s why being wrong every now and then is also part of our essence because it’s part of growth and expansion.

Think about it…what do you really learn from being right about something? Being right usually only reinforces what you already know. If you are only reinforcing what you already know, there is no expansion of thought, ideas and perspective of the world. Without this expansion of thought and experience, your ability to recognize and capitalize on change is limited. Few things undermine ambitions and destroy opportunities as much as the inability to recognize and capitalize on change.

There’s no shame in being wrong. Just don’t wallow in it when you find that you are. Uncover the lesson(s) being offered by the experience and apply it to future situations. That’s growth. That’s expansion. That’s the benefit of embracing the unknown.

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION: I encourage my growth and expansion by looking forward to, reveling in and applying the lessons learned from experiencing new people, places and things.

Until next Monday, expect the best FROM and FOR yourself!

There is no such thing as life in between. ~Pat Riley THIS WEEK’S TIP: Make it Obvious I’ve often said that I can observe someone for a week and accurately predict their likelihood of success at achieving their goals. In recent years, I’ve reduced that number of days to just three. In other words, I have found that observing someone for just three days can give you an accurate indication of his or her potential for success. Why is this? It’s easy to talk a great game.
There are only two options regarding commitment.
You’re either in or you’re out.
There is no such thing as life in between.

~Pat Riley

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Make it Obvious

I’ve often said that I can observe someone for a week and accurately predict their likelihood of success at achieving their goals. In recent years, I’ve reduced that number of days to just three. In other words, I have found that observing someone for just three days can give you an accurate indication of his or her potential for success. Why is this?

It’s easy to talk a great game. You can give lip service to ambitious goals and positive intentions. You can look busy and put on a great show for family, friends and coworkers. However, in the end, it comes down to what you actually do. Your success is determined by how you actually use the full 24 hours in a day you’ve been given.

If someone observed you for a week or 3 days or even just one 24-hour period, would they believe you’re truly committed to the goals you’ve stated? Are your actions throughout the entire day (not just a few hours a day) supportive of what you say you want for your life. Search your heart…If you’ve just been putting on a show, stop it right now. Examine and get honest about your true values and goals, and then imagine that someone you care about is observing you 24 hours a day. Make it obvious to that person (or anyone else looking) that you’re committed to your goals. Make it obvious that you’re not all talk. Make it obvious that you are the real deal…an authentic man or woman of action.

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION: Everyday, I consciously, deliberately and consistently demonstrate my commitment to my goals throughout my day.

Until next Monday, expect the best FROM and FOR yourself!
