Magnificent Monday Motivation Moment – Develop a Strategically Chosen Reading List

It’s another Magnificent Monday!

You have been blessed to see the start of another glorious week. The slate has been wiped clean (of the good and bad). You have another opportunity to BE MORE and DO BETTER. This week can be your best week ever! Remember, success is just a string of successful weeks tied together.

Here’s a quote that is particularly insightful and motivating:

Successful people have big libraries.
Unsuccessful people have big TVs.

~ Jim Rohn

THIS WEEK’S TIP: Develop a Strategically Chosen Reading List

Decide which subject area will help you most and plan out a reading list for the rest of the year. Every December, I develop my reading list for the coming year. Why? I want to make sure that, at a minimum, I read at least twelve strategically chosen books a year. I always end up reading far more than twelve books, but the point is to read strategically chosen books.

Reading is one of the best ways to expand your perspective and develop your insights about almost everything. Newspaper and magazine articles can be a great resource, but they have limited space for the information they provide. Seminars provide lots of information, but use a combination of communication techniques, including reading, writing, and oral skills. Only in books do you get the details and thoroughness of a seminar combined with the portability of magazine or newspaper articles.

How do you carve out time to read at least 12 books? First, you make a decision to do it. Second, you commit to either spending a certain amount of time reading or to reading a certain number of pages EVERY day. A close friend of mine reads 30-minutes every morning as soon as he awakes and 30-minutes right before going to bed. I’m committed to reading no less than seven pages a day. There have been days when I’ve read over 100 pages, but always no less than seven.

You can’t read every book out there, but if you will commit to reading at least seven pages every day (sometimes a little more), you can read at least one book a month.

THIS WEEK’S AFFIRMATION: I choose to expand my perspective by reading at least one strategically chosen book a month on a subject that will have maximum positive impact on my ability to accelerate achievement of my goals.

Until next Monday, expect the best FROM and FOR yourself!
